Empowering Chicago Youth: Tools Up Foundation’s Paid Construction & Leadership Program is Back. Program Starts January 2026


The Tools Up Foundation is excited to announce that TUF Teens is back and better than ever! After an incredible year of growth, achievement, and life-changing experiences, we’re ready to welcome a new class of young leaders on January 30TH.


What Is TUF Teens?


TUF Teens is a dynamic, completely FREE workforce development program designed for Chicago teens ages 15–17. Through hands-on training and holistic support, participants gain real-world experience in the construction trades while preparing for success in school, work, and life.

Every participant receives:

  • Paid stipends – earn while you learn

  • Industry-recognized credentials

  • Transportation support

  • Mental health check-ins

  • Student meals

  • Mentorship from industry experts

Whether a teen is looking to build confidence, gain practical skills, or explore the construction field, TUF Teens provides the foundation to grow as a leader and opens doors to future opportunities.

Teens ages 15 - 17 living in Chicago’s South Side neighborhoods.

A Look Back: Last Year’s Success


Last year, the TUF Teens program reached new heights. Our students showed commitment, curiosity, and resilience as they learned, grew, and built alongside industry professionals. Here’s what we achieved together:

  • 95% completion rate

  • Earned industry-recognized certifications, including:

    • OSHA 10

    • Flagger Certification

    • First Aid/CPR

  • Skill-building achievements in teamwork, leadership, construction basics, project planning, and problem-solving

  • Powerful success stories and testimonials from teens who discovered new passions, new confidence, and new pathways for their futures

Our students not only developed technical skills, but they also walked away empowered, inspired, and ready for real-world opportunities.
